Beauty Basics

There are some beauty basics that make a great difference in how your makeup looks and feels.  Here are six of mine that I feel are worth splurging on a bit because they do make a difference to me. This is kind of a long post (sorry 'bout that), but when it comes to make up I love to read magazines and other blogs for product reviews because I get super overwhelmed when it comes to choosing beauty products.  Sometimes you can't trust what's written on the back of that bottle and it's better to just help each other out, ya know?  So if this post helps one person, then it's a win!

PRO: I received a sample of this facial primer about a month ago and I absolutely love it!  The sample has lasted so long, which is great because it really gave my skin time to figure out if it was a no-go or not.  And I have to say, it is a GO.  Just a dab of this makes for a smoother surface before I apply my base.  I also like that it's super lightweight and feels like my naked skin..only better  Naturally, I have rather oily skin and this makes such a difference in my face remaining shine-free throughout the day.

CON: A little pricey, but it doesn't make me break out like some of the cheaper primers and it also doesn't take much when applying, so it should last you a good while.

2. Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer 20 SPF $36 in Light/Medium:
PRO: So I have to admit, I've always been scared of any kind of liquid makeup because skin type, but after hearing all the 'buzz' and talking with some friends, I decided to try a BB cream for Summer.  I choose this BB tinted moisturizer from Tarte and I am so glad that I did.  It's lightweight, moisturizes, helps control oil, and creates a even, natural looking finish.  This lets my skin breath while also helping protect my face from those wrinkle causing UV Rays. (Yes, SPF is just now becoming a concern..wish I would of started thinking about it at a younger age. Better late than never.)
I use my hands to apply this and go back with my beauty blender to blend further.

CON:  If you are looking for something with extra coverage, this may not be the choice for you.  However Tart does have a Amazonian Clay Foundation that is suppose to make for more coverage.

3. Benefits Gimme Brow Eyebrow Gel $22 in Light/Medium-
PRO: If your brows need a little boost, this is their ticket.  This tinted, water resistant gel helps bulk up your brows with tiny microfibers that grab onto your hairs.  It helps fill your brows to give them a more dense Cara Delevingne-esque look. (Who doesn't want that?) I love how easy it is to use and how much more natural it looks than a pencil!  My dad blessed me with thick eyebrows already, so they don't need much.  It only takes just a simple sweep or two with the wand (from tip to tip in an upward motion), and it dries in seconds with zero smudging!

CON: A+ if you are looking for a natural way to enhance your brows. The only con I can think of is that the bottle is tiny, we shall see how long it will last.  To be continued..

     4. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer $20 :
PRO: I'm sure many of you have heard of this miracle potion, but if not, I will share the secret.  Applying this primer before my eye shadow, makes for the prettiest eye makeup.  It prevents those yucky creases in your shadow and keeps it in place all day.  It also lasts FOREVER because it  only takes a tiny amount to get the job done.
CON: I can't honestly think of one.  I have tried other eye shadow primers, and I have to say this is the my fav.

5. Benefit's The POREfessional Pore Minimizing Probalm $30
PRO: One word--OBSESSED.  This helps my makeup stay put while minimizing the appearance of my pores.   Despite the difference the BB Creme and Smashbox primer make, I've been applying this occasionally throughout the day to help re-matify my face in this humid, Arkansas weather.  It really helps refresh my make up and it is so lightweight, it feels like it disappears when you put it on.  I really do notice the different in my pores. Oh, did I mention it smells divine too?

CON: A tad on the pricey side, but totally worth it if you have oily skin or large pores.

6. Fresh's Sugar Lip balm $23-
PRO: Anyone that knows me knows I am a lip gloss/stick/balm junkie.  I hoard the stuff. But, my favorite everyday, practical choice would have to be this lip balm.  My old boss introduced me to this product a couple years ago, and since then I think I've tried every color.  It makes your lips feel like a baby's bottom and has a lovely citrus scent. Not kidding.  My lips tend to get super chapped in the winter months so I usually have this stuff in my pocket at all times.

CON: Because I carry it me everywhere, I tend to loose it way more frequently than I do anything else.  Sometimes it re-appears, sometimes it does not.  But for $23 a stick, you can see why loosing this would be a bit of a sting.  If you're half as scattered as me, you'll be fine though.

Well, that was a lot of info!  I hope a piece of it was helpful for you!  If you have anymore questions, be sure to leave it in the comment box below, along with your email.:)  I am also always excited to hear about new products that you are loving!
